Harley-Davidson

The definitive American motorcycle.

Milwaukee, Wisconsin · est. 1903
The story

How Harley-Davidson happened.

Four young men in a Milwaukee shed in 1903 built a motorized bicycle. What followed outlived two world wars, the Depression, the British invasion, the Japanese invasion, an AMF near-death experience, and a 1980s buyback that became business-school legend. Harley-Davidson isn't a company that makes motorcycles so much as an institution that mints identity — the bar and shield may be the most tattooed corporate logo on earth.

The modern company runs two souls in one frame: the Milwaukee-Eight touring and Softail lines carrying the 45-degree flame, and the Revolution Max era (Pan America, Sportster S, Nightster) proving Milwaukee can build liquid-cooled, electronically sophisticated machines when it chooses to. The sound, the culture, and one of the largest owner communities in the world remain the moat nobody else can dig.

Things to know

Questions we actually get.

Are used Harleys reliable?
Twin Cam and Milwaukee-Eight engines are genuinely long-haul machines — 100,000-mile examples are common. The keys are documented oil history and stock-ish exhaust/tune. Every Harley on our floor is inspected engine-first before we buy it.
What's the deal with all the model letters?
Harley's internal codes (FLHX, FXFBS...) mostly tell dealers about family and trim. You don't need them — we translate every bike into plain English on its page.
Which Harley should a newer rider start on?
The Nightster and used Sportsters are the classic on-ramps: manageable weight, real Harley soul. Come sit on a few — geometry matters more than spec sheets.
Do Harleys hold value?
Touring models and discontinued platforms (looking at you, Dyna) hold value unusually well. Clean, unmolested examples are the ones collectors chase.
The tribe

Who rides the sign.

Harley culture is the original riding community: charity runs, H.O.G. chapters in every state, and a code of waving at strangers you'd never otherwise meet. Utah's chapter scene is active year-round — poker runs all summer, toy runs every December. Buy the bike, inherit the family.
