Farmington Canyon is the home system's entrance: the pavement runs out just past the water tanks and the dirt starts climbing immediately — shaded switchbacks, creek crossings below, the valley appearing and disappearing behind you. It's the after-work ride, the first-dirt-ride-in-twenty-years ride, the is-my-new-bike-actually-set-up-right ride. Nine miles to the flats and campgrounds, and from there the ridge system opens up: Francis Peak one way, Skyline Drive the other. Ten minutes from the shop. We are not objective about this canyon and we never will be.
